With re-rates complete, the tentative draft schedule is now the actual draft schedule. The Season 12 NSHL Entry Draft will start at 7:00 PM on January 28. Valid rosters will need to be set by noon on January 31. The Waiver Draft will be at 8:00 on February 1. As always, let me know if there are any questions.

Congratulations to Jenny Jensen and the Portland Huskies, the NSHL's Season Eleven Herb Brooks Memorial Trophy Champions. Also congrats to Cory Jordan and his Ottawa Valley Wolfhounds on their run to the Finals. This league has had its ups and downs so thank you to everyone for making Season Eleven successful. In an effort to prevent another one of the "downs," I'm going to try to keep things moving with a short offseason. Voting for the league's postseason awards is now open. You can submit your ballot through the GM Tools. Remember, this is a required action. Voting will be open until 5:00 PM on January 21. Once voting is done, I'll get our re-rates going. We already have a ratings package from the 2016-17 season ready to go so this should be relatively quick. I'd like to do it all on January 22. If that works out, I think we can tentatively set draft dates for January 28 (Entry Draft) and February 1 (Waiver Draft), which would let us get the preseason going on February 3 or so. If anyone thinks that's too much of a rush, let me know. Thanks again to everyone for the great season and congrats to the Huskies.

With Day 99 complete, the trade deadline has passed. Voting for All-Star rosters is now open through the GM Tools and will remain open until the All-Star Game itself. A reminder, All-Star voting is one of the required actions of an NSHL GM. If there are any questions, let me know.

Alright, with the Entry Draft done, the next big thing will be settings rosters. The deadline for that will be 5:00 PM on Friday, July 28th. You do not have to have your lines set at that time but you must have your pro roster down to 23 men or less and you must have your combined pro and farm rosters to 45 men or less. Your combined pro, farm, and property list can be no more than 60. Starting at noon on Saturday will be the waiver draft. The waiver draft will run until there is a round where no one is selected or waived. Players added to waivers during the waiver draft will be eligible for the waiver draft. If there are any questions about any of this, please let me know.

Okay with the Dispersal Draft done, we're ready to move on to the Entry Draft. As no one mentioned any issues with the schedule I posted previously, it'll be at 8:00 PM on Monday, July 24th. With five rounds, the draft should last until 9:40. The Entry Draft will work like the Dispersal Draft we just had, with the exception of different players being eligible and selected players being added to the Property List instead of the team roster (eligible players can then manually be moved to the roster). If there are any questions, feel free to ask.

July 10, 2017 - 4:50 PM

With five votes in favor of holding the Dispersal Draft on 7/20 at 8:00 PM, we're going to go ahead and do that. The draft should take two hours but if things start to break in the middle of it, I'll delay picks to give myself time to try to fix it. For those who won't be present and/or haven't seen how one of these drafts work, I highly suggest having a list long enough to reach your last pick of the draft. For example, if your last pick is 51st overall, you would want to have 51 names on your list. That would ensure that no matter who gets picked by anyone else, you would still have at least someone available for your last choice. People who will be present for the draft have an opportunity to adjust their list on the fly so it's less important to plan that far ahead. Assuming the Dispersal Draft goes off without catastrophe, we should be able to move on to everything else quickly. As such, I'd like to propose 8:00 PM on 7/24 for the Entry Draft. Then I'd suggest setting the roster deadline at 5:00 PM on 7/29 with the waiver draft starting at noon on 7:30. Under this schedule, the exhibition season would begin on 8/1. Please let me know any thoughts about that.

Alright, we got a lot of feedback on the idea of doing the Dispersal Draft on 7/16 but not a whole lot of alternate options. I'm proposing 8PM on 7/20 as a second option. I'd like everyone who would prefer 7/16 at noon to react to this message with a :heavy_plus_sign: and everyone who would prefer 7/20 at 8PM to react with a . Thanks.

While most of us are off on our various national holidays, I've rebuilt the schedule tool in FHS and put together a regular season schedule for the NSHL. Each team will play six games against the other teams in the league for a 54-game schedule over 123 days. There will be an All-Star Game after Day 105, hosted by last season's regular season champions, the Portland Huskies, and pitting players from the five easternmost teams against those from the five westernmost teams. With that done, it's time to get some drafts scheduled. I know there's at least one vote for waiting until later this month but I'd like to hear from everyone. My hope is to have the Dispersal Draft on a weekend afternoon where I don't have my daughter (just in case stuff blows up and I have to fix it), which pretty much locks us in to the 16th, but I'm open to other ideas. We can also spread the draft out over multiple days. We have options.
