I'd like to formally announce that, following in the footsteps of the DFHL, the NSHL will begin awarding a prize to each season's champion in the form of a $25 gift certificate to the FHS storefront.

After a minor hiccup, the Season 15 Entry Draft is complete. All rated, eligible players who were selected should now be on their respective team's roster. Everyone else is on their team's Property List. If it looks like I missed anyone in that process, let me know.

We're inside 48 hours until each team's protected list for the Expansion Draft is due so I wanted to give a bit of a status update.

All four drafts have been scheduled as per the previously-announced calendar. Obviously, those dates are all tentative because we've never expanded before and things could break and I might need time to fix things, but we'll adjust on the fly if we need to and run with that schedule for now.

Okay... Re-rates are re-done (again), both expansion teams have identities, and a bunch of bugs have been worked out on the site. It's time to move forward.

One thing left to resolve with regards to expansion is when the two new teams will pick in the Entry Draft. As previously mentioned, we voted on having them pick 2-3 in the second, third, and fourth rounds and it ended up at a 4-4 tie. The way I see it, if I vote no on that, we need to vote again or I need to dictate some other option. There has been some discussion of what those options might be in the expansion thread so swing over there if you want to propose something or give your thoughts.

I don't know why Shestyorkin is listed as Status Not Found but he's eligible so I'll be adding him back to Toronto's roster shortly. Romanov is the only other Status Not Found and he hasn't debuted yet so he's not eligible.

The second batch of re-rates has completed, so all players are now updated to reflect the 2019-20 season (or at least as much of it has been completed).

The following players are rated but not NSHL-eligible:

Additionally, the Vancouver Killer Whales under the guidance of Tom Hotchkiss and the temporarily-named "Season Fifteen Expansion Team" owned by Albert have been added to the league. Welcome to all of our new members.

Okay, following up on my earlier post... The expansion vote has completed and the following scenario has passed:

  • Expansion by two teams for Season 15.
  • Draft lottery odds for the Season 15 Entry Draft set to Thunder Bay: 20.1%, Expansion A: 19.5%, Expansion B: 19.5%, Portland: 16.3%, North Dakota: 13.4%, Brampton: 11.2%.
  • A 15-round expansion draft featuring only the expansion teams. Current teams will protect 13 players in addition to rookies and Property Lists, which will be exempt from selection. Each team must make at least one goalie available. Each team can lose only one goalie and no more than three total players. The draft will be conducted in a serpentine fashion.
  • A 15-round supplemental draft will be conducted between the Expansion Draft and the Entry Draft.
  • Beginning with Season 16, a two-round Supplemental Draft will become a standard part of the NSHL offseason, taking place between the Entry Draft and Waiver Draft in Season 16, with teams eligible to participate if they have not made the playoffs over the last two seasons and have had a sub-.500 winning percentage over the last three seasons.
  • Teams that have not made the playoffs over the last two seasons and have had a sub-.500 winning percentage over the last three seasons will be eligible to participate in the first round of this season's Supplemental Draft.
  • Only players at least 21 years old will be available in the Supplemental Draft.
  • Each expansion team will be required to be carrying at least three goalies by the end of the Supplemental Draft.
  • A coin flip will be conducted before the Entry Draft lottery to determine which expansion team is "Team A" and which is "Team B." Team A will pick first in the Expansion Draft. Team B will pick first in the Supplemental Draft. The Entry Draft lottery would then be conducted per the odds noted above.

Two items additional items ended up tied, requiring my vote as a tiebreaker. As such, beginning with Season 16, the number of seasons for which a skater is exempt from the waiver draft will drop from eight to six.
